Amazon Affiliates: A Real Case Study

Hey guys. Today, I will be revealing one of my Amazon Affiliates website. This website is making me around $50-60 a month but I am still satisfied. This website has consistent sales trends and it is now running on autopilot. The niche for this website is the solar mole repeller.

Solar Mole what?

The primary niche of the website is the solar mole repeller. I was as dumbfounded as you are right now. However, the fact that no one really knows about it works to my advantage. First off, there are less marketing competitors for this niche. Solar mole repellers are  also not readily available in general consumer stores so this increases the chances of someone purchasing one online.

Part 1: Research

So how did I come across this product? I actually found it in an airplane magazine and I felt so intrigued that I had to read more about it. When I searched this keyword on Google’s Keyword Tool, this was the result I got.

Solar Mole Repeller Review

Search volume… 1,600. Hmmm. This does not sound too attractive at all. Actually, there are many bad points about targeting this niche. There were no secondary keywords I could target. The primary keyword also received less than 2,000 searches a month. However, do not be fooled by these statistics. You will now find out why I decided to have a go with this niche (internet marketing involves a lot of risk taking).

#1 No competition at all on Google

So… I typed the keyword up on Google to see what kind of websites showed up. This is what I got.

Solar Mole Repeller Search Results

As you can see, there are two Amazon pages, One Nextag, and one irrelevant website on the first page for ‘solar mole repeller’. This was an excellent sign. There were no websites which had the primary keyword in its domain.

#2 Domain

The domain, solarmolerepeller.com was available. Another great sign! If you are able to lease a domain which only contains the primary keyword then go for it before someone else does. A domain which only contains primary keywords shows authority and legitimacy.

Moral of this case study

Spend more time researching for obscure niches. There are many hidden gems on Amazon just waiting to be exploited. You think the market is saturated? You are probably not working hard enough.

Earning proof?

Internet marketers tend to be skeptical about earnings so I posted a screen shot below to prove that this website is actually making money. If you have any questions then feel free to contact me using the comment form below.

You are a brave man revealing your niche! I just hope you are continuing to back-link it to hold it's ranking, else some other person might decide to come along and build a similar site. Especially as you have done all the hard work in researching the niche and proving it converts!

I look forward to your next post.

    • John Cho

Thank you. I will definitely keep up with the occasional back-linking. This was one of my low performing amazon review sites but I hope it provides some inspiration for a few Amazon Associates beginners out there.

that gives me a good idea about starting into amazon marketing and i agree with teatree, do not reveal any other amazon site of yours for case study.

  • leo

are you using any plugin to generate content on this site or manually

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/hkactivity John Cho

content has been written manually. If you want high conversion rates then the review should not just be a list of specifications and details found on the Amazon website. Once you have a system going, you can then outsource all the written work.

Awesome case study, good job! So how are you building the back links for the site? And are you done making content, 5 or 6 articles and let it go?

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/hkactivity John Cho

      Hey Patrick.

I build backlinks by submitting to article directories, social bookmarking, and a few forum profiles. I start off with five or six articles first. Once it reaches first page, I check how well the review website performs. If it converts well then I would add about fifteen more articles :) . The more content, the better!

  • leo

what about conversion rate. how many unique visitors do you get monthly for this site.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/hkactivity John Cho

I reckon about 150-200 UVs a month. Currently converting at around 10% which I would say is pretty decent.

  • leo

thank you for the details. good luck for your other amazon sites too

I love case studies – it gives me encouragement to do the same.
"Solar mole" really is a niche!

  • Dan

Some good advice and I like your sites layout – what theme is it? Also, you have mentioned prices in your posts – I thought you were not allowed to do that? Because the pries change so often and are therefore not always likely to be accurate. How do you get the price to auto update? Thanks

    • John Cho

Hi Dan. I was unaware about any regulations regarding prices. I will have to check up on that. As for the site layout, I designed it myself.
